CBT

Woman thinking

This is a short term, goal orientated, talking therapy which is guided to enable you to develop better coping skills within yourself, different situations and the world around you. The basics are ; that what you think and how you think ( cognitive ) will affect the way you feel ; which in turn will affect what you do (behaviour )
Certain ways of thinking can cause, or be a catalyst for various things like; depression, anxiety, nerves and other psychological problems.
A cognition is a thought or perception at any given moment in time. They are your constant internal dialogue with yourself and they can scroll through your mind very quickly and automatically.
We can talk at about 120 to 150 words per minute but we can think at about 600 to 800 words per minute. With your thoughts being left unchecked and untrained they can snowball into huge distortions of reality.
Research shows that 90% of mistakes in thinking are directly related to errors in perception.
CBT can help with many different types of problems, including: depression, stress & anxiety , nervousness, phobias, OCD, PTSD, Pain management, bulimia and matters such as anger management and low self esteem.
The plan with this form of therapy is to help you to highlight your invisible thinking patterns. From then on it is a matter of validating and modifying your thought patterns so that you can begin feel to better.
